BETWEEN SEA & garden

Zhiqian and Weikun’s wedding was inspired by the characters within their names. “Kun” (鲲), from the groom’s name, evokes the mythical great fish of ancient Chinese literature, while “Qian” (茜), from the bride’s, is associated with the madder plant and its rich natural color.

Against the Pacific backdrop of The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, we translated these meanings into a vibrant garden by the sea. At the ceremony entrance, two monumental fish sculptures handcrafted from natural dried materials brought Kun to life, surrounded by sculptural florals in coral, apricot, blush, lavender, and yellow.

The day began with traditional Chinese door games before unfolding into an oceanfront ceremony where heritage met the California coast. Botanical forms and expressive color echoed Qian, while the sea and sculptural fish carried the spirit of Kun.

Every detail connected back to their story, transforming two characters from their names into a celebration that felt deeply personal and entirely their own.
